Supply Chain ManagementBotanica's Supply Chain Management services to companies and institutions solves quality control issues at every stage from grower to finished product. For more than eight years Botanica has undertaken groundbreaking research on the quality of medicinal plant resources throughout China. For more than 30 ingredients, we have quantitatively assessed phytochemical, agrochemical, and the heavy metal content of materials grown in different environmental conditions. For each ingredient we sourced plants from five or more growing areas to identify the richest and purest plant sources. From this, Botanica has developed a network of growers that provide us with optimal plant sources for each batch we produce. Many of these growers are certified by the Chinese Government as "Green" growing bases. Botanica is working to establish international Organic Certification for some of the large "Green" growers whose materials Botanica distributes in international markets outside of China. Utilizing the supply-chain infrastructure, Botanica has researched raw material sourcing, provided voucher samples, and researched extraction-processing methods for nine botanical materials currently or previously used in US university-based NIH funded research studies. Botanica together with PRI has managed single orders as large as 25,000 kilos of extract material consisting of more than 20 different herbal ingredients and representing over 200 tons of raw material. The chart below shows an example of one step in Botanica BioScience's Raw Material Sourcing Research. Chrysanthemum morifolium is also called Ju hua in China. It grows in central and southern China. The best time to harvest its flower is in Sep.-Oct. We obtained plant samples from 5 different growing areas and evaluated their characteristics as reported below:
